About Me
After finishing my BA at Leeds and MA at SOAS, I spent three years as a children’s bookseller and part-time poet. I also filled a stack of notebooks (and several short-lived laptop hard-drives) with slabs of prose and badly-formatted scripts for TV comedy pilots, none of which ever saw the light of day but brought me a worthwhile amount of pleasure and hopefully some improvement!
In 2012, I completed my Primary PGCE at the Institute of Education, which included a Masters-level specialism in Children’s Literature and Language. I taught for three and a half years in Manchester and London before having my first child in 2016. Since then I have mostly been parenting and writing; I have completed two novels for children/YA and had work published in a Commonword anthology. I have also undertaken various community projects and voluntary work, including creating teaching resources for the non-profit EmpathyLab.
In October 2022 I completed my Certificate in Therapeutic Teaching with the Caspari Foundation. This involved a combination of theory, discussion and coursework alongside a year long placement in a local school. I also completed an 8 week course in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Life with the Oxford Mindfulness Foundation.
I’ve always loved the outdoors, but becoming the parent to two mud-loving kids has brought me even closer to nature. I am passionate about the potential of outdoor and nature-based experiences to help foster a deeper connection with ourselves, each other and our incredible planet. I completed my Level 3 training in Forest School Leadership in February 2024.
